The most radical beauty looks from Fecal Matter's first fashion show

We go behind the scenes of 'NON-HUMAN', the artistic duo's twisted fantasy fashion show at the Mandrake Hotel

"NON-HUMAN" is the first official fashion collection from artistic duo Fecal Matter. On Wednesday evening, friends, family and performance artists were fashioned into the likenesses of the supernatural pair and sent down the catwalk as ghoulish imitations. Drawing inspiration from the abuse they receive for being misfits and their feelings of isolation, the collection was based around the idea of not belonging on this planet. “Society treats us as if we are not human, simply because we are different,” says Fecal Matter's Steven Raj Bhaskaran and Hannah Rose Dalton. “That’s why the collection is titled NON-HUMAN.”


For the show, make-up artist Carlos Whisper replicated Fecal Matter’s signature smudged lip with black fangs and smokey red eyes on the models, while Eliot McQueen was put in charge of recreating some favourite “Fecal” hairstyles. “We wanted each model to experience beauty through our perspective,” Fecal Matter explained, “so that’s where the inspiration behind the transformation came from.”

Also debuting last night was the pair’s first ever “Skin Heel,” a silicone-based thigh-high boot that is moulded to the wearer's foot with a fleshy heel and mutant-like extension at the ankles. Playing with this idea of mutation, and its place in nature, Hannah closed the show in the boots and a dress covered in real flowers.
