This suction vibrator is clitorally-inclusive to accommodate all bodies

Because when it comes to clitorises, it’s not a one size fits all situation

Clitorises come in all different shapes and sizes. Just as there is no such thing as the perfect vulva, the idea of a “normal” clit is a myth – it’s just not a one size fits all situation down there.

It’s with this in mind that sex toy company Smile Makers has created its new vibrator, The Poet. The brand’s first suction vibrator, The Poet uses air pulse technology to stimulate the clitoris, mimicking the feeling of oral sex. Understanding that clitorises come in a diverse range of shapes all with varying sensitivities, the brand designed the vibrator with three different “mouth” sizes to ensure that it is comfortable and personalised for everyone. It has also been ergonomically designed for a comfortable grip that doesn’t put strain on the wrist, with touch sensors on both sides of its rosebud shape for easy access.

For anyone new to air pulse sex toys and unsure of how they work, Cecile Gasnault, Smile Makers brand director and creator of Vulva Talks, explains that while, like vibrators, they stimulate the clitoris, the method of delivery is very different. “Traditional vibrators base the stimulation on direct touch. Whichever area you are using a vibrator on, the vibrator is touching that area and massaging it through touch,” she says. “Air-based stimulation means that the stimulation is delivered by air which creates a movement on the area you are stimulating.”

With The Poet, the mouth of the product creates a seal around the clitoris and the air that gets pulsated creates a movement on and around the clitoral glans to stimulate it. “It produces a very different effect, the same way touch and suction feel different,” says Gasnault.

Making sure the product was inclusive of a wide and diverse range of clitorises was very important to the brand. “Clitorises come in different shapes and sizes and how it impacts our pleasure is not something we are educated on. By creating a product that acknowledges and caters for that fact, we also wanted to normalise that fact and invite people with clitorises to celebrate the uniqueness of their anatomy,” she says.

While all clitorises share a wishbone structure and are made of erectile tissues that get engorged with blood when aroused, they vary not only in size and shape but also where the glans is located. “Some clitorises will have the glans very exposed on the vulva whereas others will have their glans tucked in under the shaft and between the labia,” explains Gasnault. “These anatomical variations mean that their sensitivities and the way to stimulate them also vary from one person to the next.”

If you are keen to test it out, but unsure of which size mouth is the right one for you – just experiment and see what feels best! That’s the fun bit. If you feel that the mouth of the product is directly touching your clitoral glans, try going up a size to ensure it really is the air pulse and not the touch of the mouth that is creating stimulation.

Smile Makers’s The Poet is available from the website and retails at £119.95.
