The artist’s ethereal, nature-inspired nails stole the show in the video for the long-awaited song
Earlier this week (January 21), Billie Eilish and Rosalía released their much-anticipated collaboration, “Lo Vas A Olvidar”. The song has been teased since early 2019 and marked Eilish’s first time singing in Spanish. However, the show was arguably stolen by the pair’s penchant for statement nails, which took centre stage in the accompanying, Nabil-directed video.
ICYMI, nail artist and Dazed Beauty Community member Sojin Oh is behind the ethereal “Lo Vas A Olvidar” nail art, assembling transparent petals, stigmas, and other custom glass pieces by Grace Wardlaw.
“I built them together into mystical flies, flowers, and other creatures that I dream about in my head,” Sojin tells Dazed. “They ended up resonating with the forest sounds in the song, and the meditative, windy, and natural visual aspect of the video also went along with the frozen flowers.” The nails also stand out under the spotlight, shining amid the “dark, cavernous” setting of the song’s visuals.
Given that she’s noted for her contemporary interpretations of flamenco, Rosalía’s nails – “oversized blooming flowers with pointy tips” – were designed to “add to her magnificent hand gestures,” Sojin goes on. Billie’s, on the other hand, were geared towards “a nature wanderer look” with mystical flies, lengthy petals and leaves, and coffin-shaped tips (get a closer look via Instagram).
On seeing the finished project, Sojin says: “I felt so thankful to them for sharing my art with the world! I texted it to my mom back home in South Korea right away and she could not believe it. It made me tear up. It reminds me why I do what I do: to share my vision and inspire other artists to do the same.”
