While some celebrities are contributing to the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic by singing songs from their mansions, others are offering more effective solutions in the form of financial support. Along with Huda Kattan, Kylie Jenner is one of them.
The beauty entrepreneur has donated $1 million to frontline healthcare workers after her doctor, Dr Thais Aliabadi, put out a call to action asking people to send masks. Posting on her Instagram, Dr Aliabadi wrote: “I am speechless, my eyes are filled with tears of joy and my heart is overwhelmed with gratitude. I made a wish to the Universe to gather protective masks for our brave healthcare workers and today my dream came true.” The money Jenner has donated will be used to fund thousands of masks, face shields, and other protective gear for first responders.
This is not the first time Jenner has responded to a call of action. Last week, the US Surgeon General Jerome Adams called on Jenner and other social media influencers to help their young followers understand the gravity of coronavirus. Jenner responded, posting to her Instagram stories to ask her 167 million followers to stay at home.
“I know I’ve already been doing my daily reminders about how important it is right now to practice social distancing and self-quarantine. I’m going on my ninth day. The coronavirus is a real thing. I listened to the Surgeon General this morning… he definitely encouraged me to come on here and talk to you guys,” Jenner said.
Over the weekend, it was announced that the fulfillment center that distributes products for Kylie Cosmetics will be closed temporarily after the governor of California issued a statewide shelter-in-place order to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
ABC News is reporting that Kylie and her mum Kris Jenner have joined forces with Coty to produce hand sanitiser for hospitals in southern California.
The company, which is a major stakeholder in Kylie Cosmetics, announced the hand sanitisers will be donated to frontline healthcare workers.
