The beauty company is joining the efforts to combat shortages

Following in the footsteps of LVMH, L'Oréal Group, and Coty Inc., Estée Lauder Companies has become the latest beauty big dog to join the hand sanitiser effort.

WWD reported this week that the company has reopened its Melville, NY, manufacturing facility in order to produce hand sanitiser which is urgently needed during the current coronavirus pandemic. The sanitiser will be distributed to high-need groups including front-line medical staff, a spokeswoman for the company said in a statement. “We are grateful to our employees who have worked tirelessly to make this possible. Compensated, employee volunteers will support this vital, meaningful effort,” the statement continued.

Estée Lauder has also made a $2 million donation to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières to support the organisation’s work in countries highly impacted by the crisis.

Smaller, independent brands have also been doing their bit. Skincare brand Oskia has switched lab production to create hand sanitisers to distribute across local care homes in Monmouth Wales, as well as donating hand creams to NHS hospitals.

Meanwhile, Summer Fridays announced yesterday that after hearing of doctors and nurses using its Jet Lag Mask to relieve dryness and irritation caused by protective medical face masks, it would be gifting free masks to frontline healthcare professionals.
