Freelance beauty technicians face losing out to COVID-19 – you can help

Amid coronavirus lock-downs, beauty freelancers need your help to safeguard their careers

As we face increasing lockdowns and social distancing, people who work freelance or zero-hour contracts are set to be hit particularly hard. This is especially true of those in the beauty industry. From lashes to nails, these pros help look after us in a very hands-on way and for many people right now, unnecessary physical contact is a risk they are not willing to take.

As we try to find ways to support one another through these uncertain times, beauty service platform BeautyStack has offered one forward thinking strategy. Why not support your local beauty pro by booking an appointment for the summer? That way, the pro will receive their deposit now, helping to tide them over financially until things are more back to normal.

“#Supportyourlocalbeautypro is essentially a guide to how Clients and Pros alike can adapt their booking routines to COVID 19 – rather than close shop completely,” Aimee Green, content manager at BeautyStack tells us. “Whether that’s by keeping bookings local, booking video consultations, or booking for the summer.” BeautyStack founder Sharmadean Reid has also pledged to cover the cost of all cancelled appointments for the next two weeks so no one who might be showing symptoms has to feel guilty about erring on the side of caution.

For the beauty pros, this support from the industry and public will make all the difference. “It’s great not to feel alone in a time like this,” lash and brow artist Emmy says. “This campaign is going to pull us closer together and hopefully it builds our businesses stronger in the future.”

In response to the crisis, Emmy has gone mobile, visiting her clients who are in isolation, though she is careful to monitor herself for symptoms. “It’s just little me and my small studio which I invested in last year,” she says. “I’m so grateful for all my clients messaging me still wanting to keep their appointments. Clients booking appointments still allows me to receive a deposit to pay my bills and keep me afloat.”
