The best in 3D nail art

TextKro Vargas

From snow globe inspired nails to ice cream flavoured manicures, in her second edition of The Nail Files, Contributing Editor @krocaine shines a spotlight on the craziest nail sculptures

Dazed Beauty Contributing Editor Kro Vargas (@krocaine) is a nail juggernaut. A love that began in the nail salons of Queens, where she would spend the day with her grandmother as a kid, grew into a full time career and an Instagram fanbase of over 50K. A psychedelic collage of everything from Sailor Moon to the creation of Adam, Fiji water to fashion monograms - her work is always kitsch and always fabulous. In her monthly column, Kro will shine a spotlight on the nail artists she is loving and the trends we should be following.

The spooky season is over and it’s not quite Christmas. It’s cold, it’s dark, it’s wet. Maybe you have some fireworks parties to go to or very early Crimbo drinks. Welcome to November, a tricky month, spent half indoors snuggled up, half venturing out in your autumnal layers and thick textures. Over in @krocaine land, layers and textures are being taken to the extreme. “This month’s Nail Files is all about manicures with nail art you can feel,” says Kro. “Take things a step further this month with these crazy nail sculptures.”

I scream for 3D ice cream

“Japanese nail artist @yayoxo2 uses mini acrylic sculptures to create a crazy and realistic manicure. 3D mini donuts and ice cream cones is the perfect way to take your kawaii set to the next level.”

The butterfly effect

“My favourite form of 3D nail art is the aquarium nail. It can be added to any manicure to create an amazing snow globe like nail. Something you can stare at all day. Nails done by me.”

Red Cross

“New York nail artist @chrmdbysarah creates the perfect chunky bejeweled looks. Strategically placed one by one, each mini sculpture has the perfect amount of bling you could ever want in your 3D manicure.”
