This year, Einbinder and her stylist Karla Welch chose a chic Calvin Klein satin look straight off the SS27 runway, which was complemented by simple 90s hair and make-up by the beauty team. Make-up artist Molly Greenwald gave Einbinder a minimalist eye look and a greyish lavender lip, while her hair was styled in waves by Jerrod Roberts. “This look was all about chicness and simplicity,” Roberts tells Dazed. “We’ve been channelling the late 90s, early 2000s in our glam this year, and I wanted that era’s effortlessness with a modern twist, a clean shape with just one or two points of interest, like the pieces waving in by her eye.” Using the fashion as the focal point (“everything started with the dress,” Roberts says), the team tailored the glam around the look, playing off its minimalism and keeping everything timeless, fresh and refined. Courtesy Jerrod Roberts Working with Einbinder is an “absolute joy” says Roberts, who first met the actor at Paris Fashion Week for her first Louis Vuitton show and describes the collaboration process as easy and “pretty spur-of-the-moment”. “Most of the time I haven’t seen the dress before I show up. We just talk it through once I see what she’s wearing. Hannah, Molly and Karla all bring their perspective, and we build something that fits the mood together. But the priority is always that Hannah feels comfortable. If she wants to go a different direction, I switch gears, no problem,” he says. “The final call is always Hannah’s on the day.” To create the look this year, Roberts wet Einbinder’s hair and then prepped it with Roz Milk serum and Kérastase Première Sérum Filler for softness and heat protection. Roz Air Volumiser and mousse was then layered throughout before Roberts blow-dried it straight with a paddle brush, adding a slight bevel at the ends. The ends were also flat-ironed to create the piecey texture. The bend up front came from a small round brush and a medium curling iron before it was all finished off with Bumble and Bumble’s Brilliantine and Does It All Hairspray. “This is my third Emmys with her and the last where she’ll be nominated for Hacks, so it’s bittersweet: happy to celebrate her, sad it’s the last one for a while,” says Roberts. “The glam gets pushed a little further every year, and it’s always fun.” And while Einbinder didn’t win her category, her message from last year continues to ring true.
