Before “clean beauty” became a buzzword, Minnesota-based hair care brand Aveda was already using the power of plants to fuel its products. Founded in 1978, Aveda was started by Horst Rechelbacher, an Austrian businessman who, after recovering from burnout thanks to the help of herbal remedies, was inspired to create a line inspired by botanicals. Decades later, the brand has maintained that same mission, most recently with the release of its latest product, the One For All Leave-In Elixir. 

As the elixir’s name suggests, Aveda’s new product packs a punch. The One For All Leave-In Elixir is a leave-in spray that’s meant to care for all hair types and textures. There are 25 total benefits, including hydrating, detangling, and frizz control. And while haircare is often a personalised process, One For All was designed for, well, everyone. 

“With One For All, we wanted to create a product that truly worked across the full spectrum of hair types and textures,” said Christine Hall, Aveda’s vice president of research & development, in a statement. “The formula had to be lightweight enough for fine hair while still delivering meaningful conditioning and performance for thicker textures. That balance became our north star throughout development.”

Like all Aveda products, the One For All Leave-In Elixir, which retails for $36 USD, is vegan and cruelty-free. It’s also formulated with certified organic moringa oil, an ingredient that, aside from conditioning the hair, additionally acts as an important part of the environment it’s grown in. The oil is derived from moringa trees in Guatemala, where smallholder farmers are able to diversify their incomes by harvesting the high-value seeds. With moringa trees strengthening the ecosystems they’re in, the cultivation of Aveda’s moringa oil benefits both its users and its creators.
