This pore-reducing daily peel gives your skin the kickstart it deserves

Fixing redness, bumps, and hyperpigmentation, Dr Dennis Gross’ Alpha Beta Daily Peel is Dazed Digital editor Anna Cafolla‘s Product of the Week

Anna Cafolla is Dazed Digital’s editor. When she’s not talking about food or being Irish, she can be found obsessing over Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Hayley Williams, and Dua Lipa. Here, she shares her choice for Product of the Week – a weekly round-up of the Dazed Beauty team and wider community’s must-have buys.

Brand: Dr Dennis Gross

Product: Alpha Beta Extra Strength Daily Peel

Price: £69.60

My skin can feel like the the planes of a distant planet in an epic sci-fi movie – maybe like that of Denis Villeneuve’s forthcoming Dune, on which Timothée Chalamet traverses the desert landscape of Arrakis where the much-coveted, vitality and psychic ability-granting drug melange is harvested. Much like Timothee’s homebase, with its sloping hills and lack of precipitation, my skin is dry, rough, and bumpy, with hyperpigmentation, redness, some burst capillaries, and acne scars. I’m also, with age, beginning to notice more fine lines.

My own melange comes in the form of Dr Dennis Gross’ Extra Strength Alpha Beta Peel. I’ve spent years experimenting with retinols, acid peels, and mechanical exfoliators – I’m speaking as a brave St. Ive’s Apricot Scrub survivor here – but never noticed any tangible difference in my skin’s texture in the long term. I would pack on the cherry red chemical peels from a certain affordable brand and just be left with more redness, with only some short-term smooth feeling. I live for a good tingle and sting, and Dr Dennis Gross brings it while respecting more sensitive skin too, so it’s without feeling like I’m veering from sci-fi epic references into bargain bin movie horror à la Paris Hilton in House of Wax.

“After just a few days I notice my blemishes and redness dying down, and fine lines and bumps become less pronounced. This has become a go-to buy for me every few months when I need a skin kickstart”

It’s the only peel out there that combines five Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids, apparently, with vitamin A, Ubiquinone, and Resveratrol. It’s got all those buzzy acids in there – lactic, citric, salicylic, glycolic, and malic – and packing those ingredients into one two-step product is pretty unique. It means too that I’ve cut down on all my little bottles and mega-long skincare routine of previous, while still tackling all the aspects you’d want for rejuvenating your skin, from fine lines to sun damage, uneven skin tone, and big pores.

It might seem a bit on the expensive side for what is a 30-day treatment, but the long term results are so worth it. I first picked this up on Cult Beauty, where pretty much everyone else raves about it too. After just a few days I notice my blemishes and redness dying down, and fine lines and bumps become less pronounced. I’m super conscious of the nasolabial folds around my mouth, and using the pads for a few weeks makes them look less like extraterrestrial valleys. I use the two-step pads in the PM so I feel zingy and a bit boujie before bed. The first pad does a lot of the legwork, and the second is much more soothing, so you aren’t left with that horrid tight-feeling – it’s done in under five minutes. This has become a go-to buy for me every few months when I need a skin kickstart, so give Dr Dennis a shot.

If this product was a film it what would be... Dune, obvi.

Who would use it... Those giant alien earthworms need a bit of a glow I think.

If this product was one of the astrological signs it would be... Gemini, baby! Those twins exude impatience and the multifaceted Dr Dennis Gross delivers the goods fast.
