Michelle Obama has launched a lipstick to encourage voter registration

The former First Lady has teamed up with The Lip Bar to get people to the polls

You must register to vote. If you are in the US and you are eligible there has never been a more important time to exercise your democratic right to vote than this upcoming election in November.

To help encourage voter registration and get the message across, Michelle Obama has partnered with beauty brand The Lip Bar and non-profit organisation When We All Vote on a limited edition lipstick.

Titled ‘Bawse Voter’, the liquid lipstick is a matte cool-toned red and costs $15. 40 per cent of proceeds from the lipstick will go directly to When We All Vote which as an organisation works to increase voter participation in every election and to close the race gap among voters by providing registration events, text reminders, and online resources.

“We are so excited and so proud to partner with our forever first lady @michelleobama and @whenweallvote's mission to get people to the polls this November!” the brand announced on Instagram. Founded in 2012 by Melissa Butler who started making lipsticks in her kitchen, The Lip Bar is vegan, cruelty-free and Black-owned.

A limited-edition run, there are only 500 lipsticks available so get one while you can. And if you miss out, you can still donate directly to When We All Vote or purchase from one of When We All Vote’s other merchandise collaborations

The organisation has also teamed up with companies including ByChari on the ‘vote’ necklace which went viral after Obama wore it during her speech at the viral Democratic national convention – in the last hour of the event the necklace became the top trending search on all of US Google. There are also collaborations with candle brand Bright Black as well as fashion brand re-inc founded by US footballers Megan Rapinoe (who is also a When We All Vote co-chair), Christen Press, Tobin Heath and Meghan Klingenberg on a series of sportswear.
