Addressing rumours that he was taking drugs, Justin Bieber took to Instagram last night to reveal that he was recently diagnosed with Lyme disease – which is spread by ticks carrying bacteria.
In addition to Lyme, Bieber also opens up about recently having chronic mono, which he says “affected my skin, brain function, energy, and overall health.” Following the news, the singer’s wife, Hailey Bieber, tweeted her support. “For those who are trying to downplay the severity of Lyme disease. Please do your research and listen to the stories of people who have suffered with it for years,” she says. “Making fun of and belittling a disease you don’t understand is never the way, all it takes is educating yourself.”
To raise awareness around Lyme disease – Bella Hadid is another person who also suffers from it – Bieber has promised a docu-series that is coming soon to YouTube, to help people understand what he’s going through. “It’s been a rough couple years but getting the right treatment that will help treat this so far incurable disease and I will be back and better than ever,” he concludes.
