Yesterday, Dazed released the cover of the summer 2019 “Futuretopias” issue fronted by Frank Ocean. In the interview, music’s most enigmatic star is posed questions by his close collaborators, friends, peers, and fans, being asked everything from “What’s a human being’s moral responsibility in their short time on Earth?” to “Why are you so fine, though?” (as well as John Waters requesting a cover version of the Divine song ‘Female Trouble’).
In a question put to him by Amandla Stenberg, asking what practices he relies on to create and protect the space from which he channels his artistry, we find out that Ocean takes freezing cold showers every the morning. “Cold water kinda brings me back into the game of it all,” he says, before adding “A good amount of physical activity during the week and verbalising positivity is key!”
Ocean also has some grooming advice to give to his 15-year-old self, if he could travel back in time: “Keep brushing and wear your du-rag every night!”
Despite being notoriously allusive, this is not the first time Ocean has let us in on his beauty routine. In an interview with GQ earlier this year, the musician talked us through his skincare secrets saying, “You really need to do a gentle wash and put a night moisturizer on. You can't have the retinol in your creams in the day because it makes you more sun-sensitive, so you wanna throw that on at night. I need the night cream because when I wake up I feel very beautiful, moisturized and ready to have people making eye contact with me.”
