From this week, UK doctors can now prescribe medicinal cannabis to patients on the NHS who suffer from conditions such as severe forms of epilepsy, or nausea caused by chemotherapy. While we’re still a long way away from the total legalisation that countries such as Canada (who nearly ran out of weed mere days into the legalisation) have seen in recent years, these new guidelines bring us a step closer to relaxing the draconian weed laws we have in the UK.
CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is one of the components of cannabis that has significant medical benefits. Unlike THC, which is the psychoactive cannabinoid in marijuana, CBD is non-psychotropic meaning it cannot get you high and is therefore not a controlled substance. As well as helping with pain, CBD has anti-inflammatory properties which studies have shown can aid in the treatment of acne. This combined with reported anti-ageing and anti-bacterial properties, and being a great vegan alternative to beeswax, has led to the beauty industry wholeheartedly embracing CBD.
To mark the occasion we’ve rounded up some of the best cannabis-based products the beauty industry has to offer that will make you chicer than your average hippie.
