Lena Dunham to publish her first collection of fiction

A book of short stories, titled ‘Best and Always’, will be released next year

It’s been a busy year for Lena Dunham. In between wrapping the final series of Girlsthe actress and writer has been starting up her own feminist publishing house, writing a 60s-set TV series, and producing a documentary on LGBTQ fashion. She’s also – to the delight and dismay of many Internet users – been enthusiastically embracing body positivity: appearing in a completely unretouched lingerie campaign for New Zealand brand Lonely just last week

Somehow, though, that’s not all she’s managed to squeeze in. According to the latest edition of her Lenny newsletter, Dunham has also been working on her first ever fiction collection. The book, titled Best and Always, will be a selection of her short stories, and will apparently be published by Random House next year.

While no solid date has been given yet, Dunham announced the news with a preview of one of the shorts that may be featured. Called The Mechanic, it follows the story of 21-year-old woman in a relationship with an older man.

The story was published in Lenny’s Summer fiction issue, which also features work from Kaitlyn Green, Jessica Grose, and Jackie Thomas-Kennedy. Sign up to the newsletter here to get your first glimpse.
