The controversial Pink Flamingos director appears bored by the media hype surrounding her transition
The maverick director and queer icon John Waters has never been afraid to say exactly what’s on his mind. In a recent Dazed interview, the Pink Flamingos director named his favourite celebrity as Katherine Russell, wife of the Boston bomber, and revealed how he enjoys watching people jerk off on camera. Caitlyn Jenner is the latest focus of his attention, with Waters questioning the intense media focus that has surrounded her transition.
In an interview with the Spectator, the Pope Of Trash says, "The Bruce Jenner slash Caitlyn thing is kind of old hat to me. I had a transgender woman in Pink Flamingos. She had breasts and a penis. She got the operation that week. That was radical to me then. Caitlyn’s a Republican, she’s on a reality show, and she’s a Kardashian. We can’t make fun of him or her?"
Waters also went on to discuss a preference for female-to-male trans people. "It seems newer to me. They look like guys I like, so it’s even more confusing. They ask me to sign their vasectomy scars a lot, which I do."
We’d wager that Waters is unlikely to be too concerned by any backlash over the comments as a man that’s forged a career through being outspoken with his mouth and his camera.
