20/20 Visions: Beri Allen-Miller

Photographer and poetry maven Beri takes inspiration from a taxidermy class

Beri Allen-Miller’s film photographs of plush beds and blurred faces are her second love – the first is poetry. The 20-year-old Londoner has even got the poet name. Keats. Ginsberg. Miller. “With writing there’s a definite feeling of need. I get to just unload myself on to a page whereas photography is more about showing how I see things.” Growing up in Manchester, Allen-Miller was a sponge for all things creative. “My parents often took my sister and I to recording studios, their gigs, other people’s gigs and artist-studio dos.” Her poetry is a release, she says, and her photos are taken on a whim. But the life of a poet is hardly mundane. “I did a four-hour taxidermy class that I really enjoyed,” she laughs. “I’ve wanted to do a class for years!”
