The Tel Aviv-raised, New York-based painter Shay Kun takes The Hudson River School as his main source of inspiration for his first UK solo show: Perversion is the love we feel when others feel love. Meticulously painting landscapes that hark back to 19th-century artists such as Thomas Cole and Albert Bierstadts, Kun presents pastoral romanticised scenes interspersed with 21st-century iconography. Vibrantly acrylic painted explosions, combat-clad men or burning abandoned cars disturb the tranquil burnt sienna and sap green oil painted valleys. The synthesised compositions create a confusing interplay between two different centuries preoccupations. He takes us on a tour of his show at the Seventeen Gallery in Hackney.
