Video Killed The Catwalk Star

Its been an ever so busy season for Emma Cook. Not only did she have a great new collection but also a brand new family addition, bnaby Sonny, to look after. Hence the brilliany idea of showing her A/W 07 collection via video - the perfect way to cut out the usual show stress and pre-show sleepless nights (enough of those thanks to Sonny!). The video, seen here, was debuted at Topshop's new space in Covent Garden and could be seen before Christopher Kane, Marios Schwab and Richard Nicoll's shows.

The video was shot, art directed, and styled by long-time Cook collaborators Tim Gutt, Shona Heath and Cathy Edwards respectively. Its staccato strobe visuals and ryhthms are matched by appropriately laidback dance tunes from Hot Chip, Grace Jones and Richard Hawley, and the pastel pallette of flying and tumbling cardboard boxes is the perfect backdrop for Cook's feminine dresses toughened up with patent winklepickers. Cook's girly aesthetic was sexed up for Winter with body conscious tight knits and ruched tube dresses. Trousers made an unprecedented appearance in the form of 70s style high waisted wide leg cords, whilst the highlight was the feathered dresses at the end (worth watching for) that gave more than a nod to couture and fashion's current debate between the natural and the technical. One particular dusty lilac Mia Farrow version of a diaphonous chiffon dropwaisted shift with spiky feathered skirt was a show standout.
