Electric Campfire's 15th Anniversary in Rome

September 7, 2011

An experimental approach to sound, art and design

  • Text by Luca Lo Pinto

raster-noton is a network covering the overlapping border areas of pop, art and science. Emerged from the fusion of the two labels rastermusic and noton (in 1999), they realise music projects, publications and installation works. The common idea behind all releases is an experimental approach — an amalgamation of sound, art and design.

Originally conceived as a yearly label party in raster-noton’s hometown Chemnitz, Electric Campfire celebrates the label’s history and present existence with an exclusive event, inviting label members, friends and curious visitors alike. Having found a temporary home in Rome in 2007, 2009 and 2010, Electric Campfire returns to the seven hills once more this year to celebrate its 15th anniversary at the German academy Villa Massimo. Recent editions have seen outstanding performances by label founders Alva Noto, Byetone, Frank Bretschneider and signal as well as special appearances by Ivan Pavlov (RU), William Basinski (US), Mika Vainio (SF), Pixel (DK) and many others.

For this year’s edition raster-noton will invite several highly regarded international artists and composers to perform: Robert Lippok, Byetone, Anne-James Chaton, Senking alongside special guests and screenings by Carsten Nicolai.
