The feature films of the cult Roman artist all in one place
- Text by Flavia Ferrucci
The MACRO Testaccio presents the three feature films of Andrea Bezzicheri aka Franco Losvizzero and opens a new chapter in Roman film history as this is the first time the works of the talented artist will be simultaneously shown in one place. The Roman artist talked about his movies, where his filmmaker and visual artist souls come together to create suggestive and hard-to-define films, in our interview with him a few months ago.
The location for the screenings is the recently opened outdoor cinema space of the museum. A film and two documentaries intriguingly centre on the experiences of a couple, architecture and the circus. With the first in the series "N.Variazioni" having already been screened in July the remaining features in the trilogy are to be shown as the Italian summer settles into its sultry swing. On August 31 it is the turn of "Oscar Niemeyer: The Architecture is Naked" followed by "Circonudo" on September 21 to close the mini-retrospective.
The documentary on Niemeyer follows a young architect on a journey to the centre of Brazil in search of an answer to the question, "What is beauty?" Among the masters he also gets to meet the elusive Great Sage - who is widely acknowledged as one of the most important architects of the world and a leading figure in contemporary culture. Circonudo, whose cast includes names like Alejandro Jodorowsky and Violante Placido next to some historical figures of the circus, is a journey through the circus and the world of dreaming - an adventure that ultimately leads to the discovery of the unconscious part of the inner child in everyone.
