Introducing the young designer behind the the refined fashion label Aroma30

Aroma30 is an independent brand created by the young Roman designer Michela Fasanella, combining a rigorous North European minimalistic design idea with embelisshments and patterns derived from the Made in Italy tradition. Michela has given shape to a style that echoes artisanal tailoring with an added modern and international allure. The designer follows every detail throughout the process, produced entirely by two roman laboratories with whom she has always collaborated. We recently met Michela within the  AltaRoma events, at the A.I.Fair.

Satellite Voices: How did you develop an interest in fashion? When did you realize that making clothes was what you wanted to do in your life?
Michela Fasanella: My love for fashion was born so early that I can't even recall the exact moment. I was already scribbling clothes as a child, I used to choose the head-to-toe outfits of the young girls I would draw and I used every scrap of fabric i could find to make my grandmas sew doll clothes under my directions! I have  often wondered where did this passion come from, but I have no idea about it.

SV: Who are your style icons?
Michela Fasanella: There are a lot of them. A lot of ordinary people inspire me, both friends or passer-byes on thre street. Amongst the well-known icons: Monica Vitti, Tilda Swinton, Valentine Fillol Cordier, Chloe Sevigny, Mariacarla Boscono, Sofia Coppola, Grace Kelly and Jane Birkin.

SV: What inspires you the most?
Michela Fasanella: Christian iconography, 90s minimalism, classic photography, insects and the zeitgeist in general, filtered through my vision.

SV: Is there a place in Rome that you feel particulary attached to?
Michela Fasanella: The places that I love the most are attached to personal memories. On second thought, there's a place near the Gianicolo, which was the frame to my teenage sturm-und-drang, and it actually feels a bit like it belongs to me.

SV: Aroma30 is also a blog. It looks like a constant evolving moodboard to me, is that right?
Michela Fasanella: Exactly. I am never tired of images and thought it was a good idea to share it on the internet, also communicating the aesthetic of the brand.

SV: So, what's next for  Aroma30?
Michela Fasanella: A capsule collection created in collaboration with the Discipline label, a new online store and also a selection of items with reduced prices to be only sold online or by appointment in our study.
