Zoom in on one of Paris’s most unusual neighbourhoods
- Text by Jill Caytan
The precocious young photographer Irwin Barbé signs an inspiring series on one of Paris’s lesser known neighbourhoods, Beaugrenelle.
Also known as Fronts De Seine, Beaugrenelle is located in Paris’s 15th district, in the heart of the city. Built in the 70s, it features no less than 20 towers, an old shopping center, a school and a sports complex. It is often seen from afar when driving along the river, but closer up, the estate is remindful of lost relics from a different time.
After researching on non-confirmative architecture in his city, Irwin Barbé went wandering around Beaugrenelle several times in the Spring. Feeling how deserted it gets especially on Sundays, he wanted to fill it with characters and make a series of photos to represent an illusion of unoccupied youth.
