The inspired director curates a Parisian exhibition celebrating the cult photographer
- Text by Violaine Schutz
Gallerist Thaddaeus Ropac has already collaborated with Hedi Slimane and director Robert Wilson to present the work of Robert Mapplethorpe. For a new exhibition, he has asked to Sofia Coppola to become the artist's curator. The "Lost In Translation" director presents the photographer from her own perspective, bringing to light some lesser-known images. She selected some rare pictures from the Mapplethorpe Foundation, like sweet portraits of children. Their common obssession for adolescence and music makes sense and the result is a choice of tender and poetic photographies.
