Talking inspiration with the "fictionglamfolkpop" composer
- Text by Violaine Schutz
This talented and stylish singer and composer has released a critically acclaimed and very personal debut album that sounds somewhere between Björk and Laurie Anderson.
Satellite Voices: What makes you smile?
Alice Lewis: The poem "Watermelon" by Charles Bukowski.
SV: What was the first thing you ever made?
Alice Lewis: In my early teens, I made customised sunglasses for a friend who played keyboards in a band. They where bright orange plastic. I cut some thin metal wire threads, heated one end with a lighter and sunk them into the melting plastic. In the end there were threads sprouting out of everywere, I then shaped them into faces and spirals and after that added a few coloured beads here and there, et voilà! They were quite ugly really, but it was lots of fun.
SV: What’s your dream project?
Alice Lewis: Never talk about your dream project or it will never come true!
SV: What do you wish you had written / created?
Alice Lewis: Odilon Redon's drawings.
SV: Who’s work / art / music would you recommend on checking out?
Alice Lewis: The bands Limousine, Viva and the diva, Paris and Poni Hoax.
SV: How do you describe your work?
Alice Lewis: Fictionglamfolkpop.
SV: What's Next?
Alice Lewis: Writing new music...
