Simon Porte-Jacquemus's Debut Paris Show
September 27
The 22-year-old Parisian fashion maven opens his impressive first show
- Text by Terence Teh
At only 22-years-old, the Parisian designer Simon Porte-Jacquemus has been lauded as a nascent talent within European, DIY circles. And on Monday of this week he unveiled his first ever show, a brilliant display, marking a new wave of Paris fashion. One that is more accessible and approachable with his trademark elevation of simplicity, portraying a certain feminine charm, French heritage and love of uniforms.
Adrian Joffe, Rei Kawakubo's husband was in the front row and just one of a number of early supporters, celebrating Jacquemus at their Dover Street Market stores in both London and Tokyo.
Working from that French uniform inspiration pool with sheer fabric, he had real Parisian It Girls take to the runway, including the effervescent Jeanne Damas. Whilst keeping with the feverish DIY nature of the show, the girls wore little mark-up with stripped back lighting and theatrics.
