The founder of the jewellery label and the Boutique Ephemere one day takeovers talks to Satellite Voices

  • Text by Violaine Schutz

After working for Tigersushi Furs, Marthe Lazarus created her own vintage jewellery label, the Marthe Lazarus Collection as well as discovering and supporting the city's young designers through her online store and the artistic pop-up takeover La Boutique Ephémère. On a monthly basis Marthe Lazarus sets up a one day fashion, art and music event to: "try and make beautiful shops for independent designers and artists despite the excessive rents prices in Paris, especially in Le Marais."

Satellite Voices: What makes you smile?
Marthe Lazarus:
A beautiful vintage jewel and a beautiful Boutique Ephémère with a great gig and amazing designers!

SV: What was the first thing you ever made?
I wouldn’t say breathing, neither screaming nor studying or obeying my parents.... or not obeying my parents and I wouldn’t say working or discovering people so I don’t know... Maybe doing all of this together?

SV: What’s your dream project?
I am not a "dream project" person anymore I think. I am at a moment in my life where all the things I did before are getting mixed together. I studied business and politics, worked as a photographer and also in fashion retail and music. Since March 2011, all of this has become the Marthe Lazarus Collection with the jewels and the Boutique Ephémère.

SV: Whose work / art / music would you recommend on checking out?
Marthe Lazarus:
I really recommend the Parisian Festival Filmer la Musique and also all the films of certain movie directors whose work is always inside me - Pasolini, Pialat, Doillon, Fassbinder, Satyajit Ray...
