SV went to the opening of Spheres 2012 the incredibly inspiring exhibition at Continua Gallery, Le Moulin, in the Parisian countryside. Invited by Onfair, an exclusive club for young collectors, for a rustic lunch in the courtyard of the gallery, we were immediately immersed in the spectacular venues of the abandoned industrial space, where the gallery is located.
Launched in 2008 from the desire of a common and unifying exposure, Spheres is a project supported by the complicity of several contemporary art galleries with an international dimension, together for the first time at the Mill, former industrial area near a river the Paris region.
Showing that it is possible to avoid assumptions about a so-called competition between contemporary art galleries, this project is the manifesto of a dynamic position in the professional field of art and its market: an initiative to make the correlation no longer a barrier, but a tremendous asset to pave the way for new and ambitious projects, taking advantage of the diversity of opinions and wealth of subjectivities.
The works gathered in the Mill are all singular echoes the work of support and development conducted by the galleries, showing their strength by proposal, investment and support always renewed with artists, to bring out new models of thinking and new challenges. Spheres is thus the image of the force to act in concert to create a confluence of energy and thus increase the critical perspectives. There, we had the chance to admire long term projects of artists like Daniel Buren, Michlangelo Pistoletto, Kendell Geers, Mona Hatoum, Kader Attia.
It is in an artistic setting itself outsized that takes place this exhibition. Opened in October 2007, the impressive site of Galleria Continua/Le Moulin is hosting an arts center in the countryside projects by artists from all horizons. It is thus a meeting point, the field of all possibilities where each dialogue with peers.
The galleries that participated in Spheres 2012 are: Air de Paris, Almine Rech Gallery, Chantal Crousel, Chemould Prescott Road, City Art, Dar al-Ma'mun, Depart Foundation, Esther Schipper, Galerie Krinzinger, Galerie Xippas, Galleria Continua, Goodman Gallery, Hauser & Wirth, In Situ / Fabienne, Leclerc Izolyatsia, Johann König, Kamel Mennour, Stock Mor.Charpentier, SAM Art Projects, Thaddaeus Ropac, White Cube, Yvon Lambert. The result is amazing, definitely one of best exhibitions of the year.
