The Author Comes at Night
June 23, 2011
A unique project by KilltheTills, connecting literature and nightlife in Munich
- Text by Sylvia Weber
Some of history´s best works of literature were created out of drunkness. At least as far as Hemingway is concerned. This tradition now functions as basic idea for the one-of-a-kind event series of artist and DJ brothers KillTheTills.
Every first Saturday of the month, KilltheTills invites Munich´s nightlife crowd alongside a prominent contemporary author to a wild night at Munich´s local creative scene hotspot, Blumenbar in the Glockenbach quarter.
The aforementioned author will celebrate with the guests, and write down his experiences of the night in an essay. And after one year, therewill be 12 short stories who will be published in a collected volume. KilltheTills strive to cross borders between author and reader and create new accesss to literature for a young, yet educated audience.
A totally new symbiosis of literature and nightlife will take place and every evening history will be written, and every guest will become a potential protagonist of fiction or reportage.
On 2nd of July, KilltheTills will welcome a very special author at Blumenbar. The Swiss-born enfant terrible of borderline journalism, Tom Kummer, who was responsible for a nationwide media scandal in the late 90s with his faked celebrity interviews. He will swap his tennis racket in L.A. for a gin and tonic at Blumenbar and his essay will definitely be one of the most anticipated stories in the upcoming anthology.
