The Fly Russia Takeover: Nocow
May 26
Continuing our celebration into the future sound of Russia with the soaring wall of sound found on Nocow's Pulkovo Heights EP

Alongside the Error Broadcast guys, the Gimme 5 blog and collective are also the ones responsible for the storming "Fly Russia" snapshot of future beats. Producer Nocow's latest EP "Pulkovo Heights" released earlier this month on Gimme 5, he has created a deep, diverse experimental collection for the club that harks back to the Mo'Wax "Excursions / Headz 2"-era whilst pushing the Russian strain of post-dubstep beats. He's been dabbling with experiemental electronica for years and this is definitely the EP to push his sound out on a global level.
Satellite Voices: There seems to be a creative uprising in Russia, how do you feel your scene?
Nocow: There are obvious changes in electronic music sphere in Russia though I can’t say I feel the most part of it. I’d rather draw your attention to the single segments, to the particular producers. I’m more impressed with the very individual path of progress - otherwise the producer’s personality is often erased and it deprives the most important components of a specific creative unit and its development.
SV: What other artists inspire you?
Nocow: From Busta Rhymes to the Future Sound of London and Kings of Convenience. The process of specific sources of inspiration changes, it is infinite. Sometimes inner changes and interaction with the surrounding reality are able to inspire you even more than the most intimate record.
SV: What are the best parties in Moscow that represent this music? Are there other hotspots in Russia?
Nocow: There are some gigs that cause concern, but i’m kinda isolated from what‘s happening. Though I can say that I do like some guys and their unions. In Moscow there‘s RAD and Capital Bass. If we’re talking about Russia in whole, there’s Gimme5 – i have tender affection to these guys. I like how Roots United act, these guys are from my hometown. And of course our own Wax Paper Cup flava, though we’re less interested in the events, we’re united with a love of music and mutual respect.
SV: What’s next?
Nocow: I hope there’s only good things.
