May 24

Continuing our celebration into the future sound of Russia with the cosmic future jazz of the RAD crew

  • Text by Terence Teh

After the future hip hop of OL aka Oleg Buyanov, our deep drop into the Slav Soul of Russian Fuzz the arrives with Artem Miracle Libido from Moscow's banging RAD community. Check out their parties, and the debut RAD EP up on bandcamp.

Satellite Voices: There seems to be a creative uprising in Russia, how do you feel your scene?
Miracle Libido: Yep, there are creative movements down here, but I think it's all about the time we are leaving in. It's all global you know, thanks to the internet we are now equal in our possibilities.

SV: What do you think about the luxury vs. the punk DIY vibe that exists in Moscow?
Miracle Libido: Considering music scene - there's a huge gap between real music and what's going on in the show business. Real music is blooming, new underground scene is rising. Lot's of new communities full of enthusiasm - guys are using modern opportunities in production and promotion and on the other hand pop scene is becoming even worse. And yes, this kind of situation could be seen in the whole Russia. Lot's of losers having money and power and nothing inside vs. those who are full of ideas and ready to act. But I believe the last ones are going to take the place really soon.

SV: What other artists inspire you?
Miracle Libido: At the moment I'm really inspired by the music soundtracks from the post soviet movies from 90s. Also, I really dig my comrades from RAD. Regarding foreign music - I'm into the late 80s and early 90s.

SV: What are the best parties in Moscow that represent this music? Are there other hotspots in Russia?
Miracle Libido: There are good techno parties curated by our fellas from Nervmusic. Very popular parties are made by Capital Bass, they are specialising on the bass scene. Also there is Mauvais Ton party, they hosted Darkstar and Canblaster. Talking about Russia in general, there are dope parties in Tumen, Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk, where parties are curated by Gimme5.
