The Fly Russia Takeover: Error Broadcast
May 18
To celebrate the future sound of Russia we've invited the collective behind the Fly Russia compilation into the realms

There's a new future beats scene exploding worldwide and it's coming from Russia. Lo-fi and nasty, with sublime electronics and a thumping lust for bass, artists like Pixelord, DZA and OL are leading a new sonic revolution to rival the Low End Theory of those cosmic LA beat bethrens or the UK's post dubstep dons. To celebrate and explore this movement, label Error Broadcast and blog Gimme 5 released the inspired compilation, "Fly Russia".
This week the crew takeover Satellite Voices as we introduce the future sound of Russia and first up we proudly introduce Flip and Swift from Error Broadcast.
Satellite Voices: Please introduce Error Broadcast and how the Fly Russia compilation came about?
Flip and Swift: Error Broadcast is located in Modena and Berlin, respectively. Our focus is instrumental, electronic hip hop. Recently the term bass music has frequently been used, so take this as our genre if you dare...
"Fly Russia" has been a collection of tracks the guys from Siberian blog and label Gimme 5 were offering to us. Error Broadcast had a foot in the door of Russia’s beat scene as we released the debut records of DZA and Pixelord short before. Guess the idea was to have an European label up for support to make the World notice... So it did. The awesome media feedback, however, was a surprise to everybody involved.
SV: What do you think sets these artists aside from other beats producers from say London or LA?
Flip and Swift: The differences are subtle. Lot has been said about the different approach of US and UK producers to Bass Music, and I think the difference with Russian producers is their hunger for both marijuana and cocaine, ha! Jokes aside – the generation of musicians that is portrayed with "Fly Russia" behaves wildly not only with toxics but pop culture in general, and electronic music in particular. They incorporate whatever they like, with a child-like appetite for destruction and the nonchalance of a gentleman pirate, with most producers not keen to be anything like hi-fi.
SV: Let's talk about the creative rising happening in Moscow?
Flip and Swift: It is great to work with all these guys, the level of enthusiasm is extremely high. The scene is evolving quite fast with different producers taking different directions. Everybody tries to focus on music and event organization more professionally, in particular in Siberia and Moscow. Pixelord and DZA are touring Europe this summer, the former fresh from his tour in China, well, this is something! The Wols LP on Pingipung is a fucking must-have. Gimme 5 and FUSE Lab do an awesome job promoting their artists… We’ll see. Satisfaction plateau reached not yet I’d say.
SV: What other projects are up next with the Russian producers you work with?
Flip and Swift: This week we are releasing "Five-Finger Remixes", a huge remix collection crafted from the debut beat tape, Moscow producer DZA published with Error Broadcast in 2010. You can grab a teaser pack for free, featuring six of the strongest remixes (including the like of ichiro_, Dynooo, Montgomery Clunk, and more) or download the full set on our bandcamp. We also did a limited run of cassettes, so if you are into walkmen, make sure not to miss it!
DZA will play Sonar in June, and the day he performs, we unleash his brand new "Zoo Keeper" 12” to the world. Beast of an EP, real radical rave! Comes on green wax, with remixes by LA’s Salva and Italian uprising producer Digi G’Alessio.
After the summer time-out, our very own OL will be back at Error Broadcast with an exclusive collaboration EP featuring crazy man Lapti. Expect a mix of rich ambient textures and juicy Rap beats. We are much hyped for this.
