Moscow based DJ shares his favourite city spots
- Text by Kemal Tarba
Our Moscow with… series showcasess our favourite inspiring city spots from a cast of Moscow based creatives, who will walk the city and capture places and vibes that have influenced their aesthetics. Our first installment comes from Denis Rusakov – an acclaimed DJ whose electronic disco irreverence entitled Rusakovshina pushes the boundaries as to what we here in Moscow can do with dancing all night long. We caught up with Denis between his DJ sets and hangover crisis periods and set about trying to discover exactly who and what is driving his emotionally charged musicianship.
Satellite Voices: What is your top party track?
Denis Rusakov: I don’t have any specific dancefloor killers as I play lots of new music each time. But people still go crazy when Ivan Dorn and Hercules with Jessica are playing.
SV: What's your favourite way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon in Moscow?
Denis Rusakov: My hangover is really, really bad each time! So I spend it in bed with McDonald’s yummies.
SV: Describe your personal style?
Denis Rusakov: I am an anti-fashion guy! I hate everything connected with glamorous world of such from Jacobs to Van Beirendonck. I love streetwear and expensive accessories like a Mercedes-Benz.
SV: Tell us something about Moscow we don't know?
Denis Rusakov: Some scientists think that the word "Москва" is of ancient Finnish origin where "моск" means bear and "ва" means water. I hope it’s a joke!
SV: What is your best party memory?
Denis Rusakov: I was clubbing hard in NY in the late 70s! It was a beautiful dream, I was so pissed off when I woke up.
