The cult Moscow-based indie rock foursome debuts their new single during the Winter Act music festival
alterday was created specifically on March 16, 2003. Initially, the band was a trio, releasing two EPs: "La Musique" (2006) and "Stereotype" (2007). Subsequently, the group was expanded to four people, and the result of the new structure was the release of their first album "Reborn" in April 2010. On December 15, the group debuts their new single as a part of their performance during Winter Act festival at the HLEB.
Satellite Voices: What is the story behind your name?
alterday: The name of the band consists of two words from two different languages - Latin «alter» meaning «other» and English word «day». Later, these words were merged into one and now alterday for us - it's not a combination of two words but an independent word. Sometimes the name of our band is interpreted as alternative day. We guess it's good that the name gives possibility for different associations.
SV: What is your favourite sound?
alterday: There is no better sound then a sound at the right time and place. Typically this would be the sounds of weather.
SV: What’s the relationship between the sound and the words?
alterday: They are friendly with each other, but no one in this pair is dominant. Words should not detract from the music, but at the same time, they must include a meaningful message.
SV: What are some of the top moments in your band’s history?
alterday: The release of "Reborn" in 2010, over which we have worked for a long time. By the way, now we write a single, and then will start recording our second album. Very memorable for us was the performance of the opening act for Dredg in Moscow. This band is one of our favourites and a couple of years ago we could not even dream about it. Generally, as a rule, the most vivid impressions we get during our tours, especially outside of Russia. This summer, we had tour in the Baltic, where performed at various festivals and clubs. We’re going to continue this experience and want to go to Europe in spring.
