Our Russian guest fashion columnist speaks to the award-winning Designer of the Year
Last year designer Alexandr Terekhov received Best Brand Award 2010 from the World Fashion channel and this year Alexander was awarded by GQ Russia as Designer of the Year. His idiosyncratic career has developed into celebrated international collaborations - Alexander Terekhov (Atelier Moscow) for Coccinelle bags were presented during Milano Fashion Week SS 2012. Our fashion columnist Maga MGD delved deeper.
Maga MGD: Allow me firstly to congratulate you with GQ Designer of the Year 2011 Award. Do you feel a rise of responsibility?
Alexander Terekhov: Thank you! Everyone asks me how my life has changed after the award, and this is what I felt... I arrived to the ceremony two hours before it started from the Premiere Vision exhibition in Paris and the next day at seven in hte morning I had already flown back to Paris. A day later I flew to Milan for the presentation of my new line of bags. In Moscow, we are issuing my capsule collection, and winter 2012-13 is already there. So I feel busy and I like it.
Maga MGD: How would you define Russian elegance?
Alexander Terekhov: I would say that the new Russian elegance is the knowledge of where to stop. A lot of girls in Russia are dressed beautifully and elegantly, and this is largely due to the fact that they acquired a sense of limits in the selection of clothing and accessories, in combination of colours and textures.
Maga MGD: Which of your collections you are most proud of?
Alexander Terekhov: I think the collection that was showed at this year's Volvo fashion week.
Maga MGD: Which object of women's wardrobe you think is the sexiest?
Alexander Terekhov: Stockings, a dress.
