The British photographer shares his Dubai through his lens

  • Text by Kate Hazell

British photographer Adam Wilson has been in Dubai for five years and currently works full time as Group Picture Editor for Time Out Dubai magazine, but spends his spare hours after dark uncovering a hidden Dubai seen by few. As the 32-year-old finishes his third shoot commissioned by Harpers Bazaar Arabia, the amateur photographer shares his Dubai with Satellite Voices.

Satellite Voices: What makes you smile?
Adam Wilson: Creativeness I have not seen before. It means someone is being a little bit daring and going with what they feel. Also, politeness and a cold beer on a Friday night!
SV: What was the first thing you ever made?
Adam Wilsom: My mother scream and then my Dad cry, (probably thinking of all the golf he would now be missing out on).
SV: What’s your dream project?
Adam Wilson: To shoot a travel feature in Rio. I've never been but that is part of the attraction, it's always better to shoot somewhere you don’t know, you see everything with wide eyes and have the natural feeling to explore. Plus, it’s Brazil!
SV: What do you wish you had written / created?
Adam Wilson: Facebook, not for the money but to have done something that has made a difference. Especially as it has been so influential in organizing the Middle East uprising. Alright, and for the money….
SV: Who’s work/art/music would you recommend on checking out?
Adam Wilson: Illustrator Sasan Saidi, there is always an element of darkness to his work which just makes me stare at his illustrations, plus you never quite know how he will interpret a brief, even for a business newspaper he can still be so creative.
SV: How do you describe your work?
Adam Wilson: Shots of beautiful things that otherwise may have been missed. General conception of Dubai is bling and money but there are so many cool back ally’s and areas that have so much character that no amount of money can buy. Plus, nighttime these places take on a mysterious feel of their own.
