A local spotlight on the Dubai newbie and mixed media visual artist

  • Text by Simone Sebastian

Satellite Voices introduces Denise Kynd, a mixed media artist, designer and general maker-of-things who recently moved to Dubai city.

Satellite Voices: What makes you smile?
Denise Kynd:
Laughing children.

SV: What was the first thing you ever made?
Denise Kynd :
A house made out of Lego.

SV: What’s your dream project?
Denise Kynd:
Well I had a dream that I was painting with Picasso but he was impersonated in Dali's body, so I guess that will just stay a dream...

SV: What do you wish you had written / created?
Denise Kynd:
There are no wishes, whatever comes to my mind I write or create in the moment.

SV: Whose work / art / music would you recommend on checking out?
Denise Kynd:
My all time favorite Artist is Jean-Michel Basquiat. A JMB collage will be soon posted to my website which is a collaborative-art-work-piece with a US-based artist by the name of Paul Jeter who uses portraits of old school celebs and paints them in aquarells, I got inspired immediately and I cannot wait to post it. If you like underground music, something that is jazzy-electronical-experimental then Little Dragon is the band to listen too, I saw them live in Sweden at a small jazz venue in Stockholm, and they are amazing and worth every penny.

SV : How do you describe your work?

Denise Kynd : I guess my work falls into the category of collages. Most people need labels in order to understand things I myself would like to say its Serendipity meets Vagabond as a spiritual medium to create a feeling that cannot be put into words. It's hard to describe something that maybe a viewer see's different thats why I recommend to check out my work and make your own story out of it.
