Jonas Mekas
Often referred to as 'the godfather of American avant-garde cinema', Mekas has received awards from the Guggenheim Fellowship and the Creative Arts Award. He also co-founded the Filmmakers Cooperative (FMC) and the Filmmakers Cinematheque in 1964, which eventually became the Anthology Film Archives, one of the world's largest and most important repositories of avant-garde films.
