Cachaça, a pure spirit distilled
from fresh pressed sugarcane
juice, was invented by the first
Portugese settlers in Brasil in
the sixteenth century. But it
wasn't until 1922, when
Brasil's modernist avant-garde
organised a Modern Art Week
in Sao Paolo, that cachaça
emerged as a symbol of
Brasilian identity, and it soon
came to be considered the
country's national drink.
It's the third most consumed spirit in the world after vodka and soju, and is
the key ingredient in caipirinha, Brasil's famed lime and sugar cocktail.
To make a Sagatiba Classic Caipirinha
- 50ml Sagatiba Pura
- 4 wedges of lime
- 2 spoons of sugar
Pour the sugar over the lime wedges and muddle

or shake.
