Stefan Cooke is the London-based designer obsessed with ‘boring’ clothing
London-based designer Stefan Cooke has already added the L’Oréal Professional Creative Award and the H&M Design Award to his list of accolades (and presumably his trophy cabinet). Not bad for someone who graduated less than a year ago.
The Crawley-born Central Saint Martins alum has made a name for himself for finding beauty in the mundane, with his MA collection a celebration of ‘boring’ clothing: think unique and offbeat takes on Argyle sweaters, roll-necks, and classic overcoats, with photographs of common garments like jeans printed onto woven elastic to create a trompe l’oeil effect.
Joining the Fashion East fold earlier this year and working with his partner Jake Burt, Cooke made his runway debut as part of January’s MAN show at LFWM with a line-up of cut-out tank tops, photo printed ‘tailoring’, and a perspex bag we still can’t stop thinking about. With his next show scheduled for June, we can’t wait to see what’s next.
