The British designer redefining sexiness with her underwear-inspired aesthetic
Charlotte Knowles is a woman designing for women. Despite only graduating from Central Saint Martins a little over a year ago, London-based Knowles is already making her mark on the industry with clothing that explores femininity in all its facets. Known for her corsetry and underwear-influenced aesthetic – think structured mini-dresses and bustiers underlaid with bra-style detailing – the British designer is intent on deconstructing ideas of what constitutes as ‘sexy’, and playing with different ways the body is concealed and revealed.
Having joined the ranks of Fashion East in 2017, Knowles – who works alongside partner Alexandre Arsenault – debuted her first collection as a presentation in September, before hitting the runway at London Fashion Week in February with her second. AW18’s embellished tulle dresses, swirling prints and embroidery – styled by Dazed’s senior fashion editor, Emma Wyman – evolved on her first outing and demonstrated her developing talent. With her first catwalk show now under her belt, we’re excited to see what’s in store for the rest of 2018 – and beyond.
