Promising multidisciplinary artist, designer and accidental photographer, Nikoo Bafti, is currently juggling a busy creative schedule.  When she's not studying for a Visual Communications degree, she is putting together a huge personal project to showcase her work in both photography and illustration, which will form a large installation piece. On top of all that her second exhibition this summer, presented by art collective Few and Far Between at The Rag Factory, will be a chance for her to let everyone take a sneak peak into the world as she sees it. We chatted with Nikoo about her love of cheese, her experiences moving from the UK to Kuwait, and her liking of a good ol' adventure.

Dazed Digital: Tell us a bit of background about yourself.
Nikoo Bafti: I'm a British-Iranian student doing Visual Communication and Illustration at the Arts University College at Bournemouth. I was born in England but I had to leave with the family when I was about six to live in Kuwait for 13 years, which was interesting to say the least. A lot of sandstorms, sunburn and lizards. Apart from all that, I like adventures, cheese and Scandinavian musicians.

DD: How did you get into photography? And what do you enjoy most about it?
Nikoo Bafti: I don't think I ever made a conscious decision to be a photographer so to say, I've just found that over the past couple of years taking photos has kind of fused into my day to day life. I guess what I love most about it is the act of documenting.

DD: How would you describe your style of photography?
Nikoo Bafti: I'd call it a peculiar visual diary - a look at reality through some rather glittery spectacles.

DD: Which photographers do you admire and why?
Nikoo Bafti: I think my idol would have to be Nan Goldin. I love that with her photography it's more an account of her interesting life rather than a following of a specific style. I also really admire the work of Swedish music video director and visual artist Andreas Nilsson; he may not be a photographer, but take a still from any one of his videos and they each look like a perfectly composed masterpiece. I think he's a genius.

DD: What's your fav type of camera to shoot with? What type are you currently using?
Nikoo Bafti: I'd have to say my favourite camera to shoot with recently is my Chinon CP-7m - it's nothing too fancy and parts of it are currently held together by masking tape, but it was actually my mum's first SLR, so I feel it's got a bit of character to it. At the moment I'm having some fun with a Canon AE-1.

DD: What future projects do you have in the pipeline?
Nikoo Bafti: I've had an ongoing personal project in the works for two years now, which entails copious amounts of instant photography and other bits and pieces; it will hopefully be finished and showcased as a big installation piece around this time next year. In the more immediate future, I'll be showing some work at the second exhibition of the art collective Few and Far Between at the Rag Factory later this summer, which is quite exciting stuff.
