Music / IncomingDinner Date With DinkyChilean vocalist and producer guides us through a weekend via Berlin and MilanShareLink copied ✔️March 5, 2010MusicIncomingText Terence Teh Ahead of Fabric’s mammoth On & On…& On spectacular this Saturday (in fact, the Clerkenwell institution is opening its doors for 30 hours nonstop madness, from 11pm Saturday 6th March through to 5am Monday) techno princess Dinky leads us through a weekend at her legendary Panorama Bar residency. At the end of last year, the ethereal Chilean producer and vocalist, now based in Berlin, released her album Anemik to a host of blinding reviews. Dinky’s (born Alejandra Iglesias) delicate Rhodes and vocal-tinged techno is as much indebted to Mazzy Star as Matthew Jonson. She’ll be playing live alongside Craig Richards and Terry Francis, Radioslave, Ellen Allien, Seth Troxler and many more.Saturday 10am Arkona Platz, MitteI’m getting ready for a semi-marathon weekend that will take me to Italy and back to Berlin to play at Panorama Bar, my Berlin residency. Unfortunately I just received some devastating news, my country Chile has been struck with one of the strongest earthquakes in the century and I can’t communicate with my family. After a few minutes of fear an email from my mother’s Blackberry pops into my inbox saying everyone is fine. Relieved but worried I continue my day, though I can’t stop worrying about the magnitude of events. Due to the tight flight schedule I decide to leave my vinyls at home. After some WAV shopping I prepare for Panorama Bar. It actually feels too good not to check in any luggage. The flight is extremely bumpy and I can’t get my mind off of Chile. This is probably going to affect my performance as I know I can’t fake my emotions well.Saturday 11pm, MilanI get some sleep in the car and get to the club totally sleepy to thousands of ravers waiting outside. Half an hour later and I’m on stage, the mixer is in the red and everything is so maxed out and loud, dear lord I’m happy I found my earplugs. Four gorgeous dancers in bikinis are in front of the DJ table, rocking back and forth. The crowd (mostly young men) seem much more interested in the girls than anything else. I find my way and enjoy it as much as possible, the crowds screams, so is all good. At 4am my driver takes me to Milan airport. Luckily I find an empty, massive massage chair in front of my gate that makes the perfect bed!Sunday 10.30am, BerlinI play in one and half hours, so not much time. Matthew (Styles) is waiting for me with a hug a nice breakfast and a cup of tea. I eat, shower and we head to the club. As expected the house is full, mad and full of energy. Galluzi is playing and is absolutely rocking it. I have a my first drink of the weekend. Despite that I have been playing at the Bar once a month since its opening in 2004, I still get absolutely nervous when I perform here. It’s not a negative nervousness but a more exiting and emotional one. I know I can’t let anyone down and I get totally involved. Despite being worried, I totally enjoy myself. Everyone seemed so happy and the floor was always full. I keep a good spirit and play freely and from my heart. I guess that’s the most important thing in this special place. Beautiful people, amazing sound, friends and great music in such a magical place is the best way to finish such an intense weekend. Escape the algorithm!
