You could say Mike Diaz has perfect timing. To release a sun-drenched EP of fractured pop gems long after everybody left the beach behind was always going to be the perfect remedy for those winter blues. We caught up with the Floridian hotshot, MillionYoung, in between surfing those heady waves of blog hype.
WHAT'S… ...so special about you, then? I rock at air hockey, and I'm a good listener. Never tried doing both at the same time though.
...your worst vice? Soda.
...the world coming to? Replicants. I'm actually only half joking about this too.
…the story behind your name? Sending me a postcard from Japan.
...your worst fashion secret? Nothing really comes to mind, I am however long overdue for a new pair of shoes. I've been sporting these slip-ons for close to five years and they've got paper thin soles now. I'll never toss em', but they do need to be tagged out soon.
...did you dream about last night? I'm not really sure. I seldom remember plots or visuals from my dreams, but the feelings they induce linger for a long time. It's strange experiencing an emotion for a reason you can't fully remember. This morning I woke up rather content though, so that's good.
...at the top of your shit list? Bills.
...are you listening to now? Beach House - Used To Be. 2010 hasn't even started yet, but judging from the bits I've heard of Teen Dream, I can tell these guys already have a serious album of the year contender by anyone's standards.
....the worst piece of music you've ever heard? Anything Dave Matthews. It really bothers me that there's even a market out there for this sort of thing.
...the tastiest meal you've eaten? In recent memory? Korean BBQ.
The Be So True EP will be released in January on a limited cassette run. The Sunndreamm EP over at myspace should also be scoped out.
