When Dazed first spoke to Los Angeles club slayer edIT (aka Ed Ma) almost two years ago (check issue 43 with Sofia Coppola on the cover) he told us he was making the final tweaks to his long-awaited second album Certified Air Raid Material. That finally dropped earlier this year on Alpha Pup, and this month he unveils the epic edIT live show as he embarks on his first ever UK and European tour.

His latest single, the J Dilla-tribute "The Game is Not Over", shows where this super talented (and slightly ADD) producer is currently at. Bomb-heavy rhythms ripped up with juggernaut glitches and soaring melodies, it's hip hop that you've never heard before. Remember when The Neptunes landed with their circa-millennium beats? What edIT's crew - the Glitch Mob withLuckyMeFlying LotusMofomatronixJoker - are doing is kinda like a more esoteric and underground version of that chop. Forget about live horns, it's all about the Crunkmaster 2000.

Dazed Digital: Can you introduce the Glitch Mob?
edIT:
The Glitch Mob is myself, Ooah, Kraddy and Boreta. We are all good friends and perform our music together live, Voltron-style. Ooah was the first to drop a release on our label Glitch Mob Unlimited with "Hacksaw" and the dubstep rinser "Tubstomper". All the ladies love his steez. Boreta was next, releasing the mega dancefloor crusher "Bubblin' In the Cut". Kraddy will be dropping the forth single on Glitch Mob Unlimited. He's the one who slays it with that straight booty shit. He's got some serious heat dropping in a couple of months.

DD: Together, you're evolving a really freaky new sound.
E:
I think it's great that there's a grip of heads making futuristic hip hop beats. From LA to SF to NYC to Montreal to Glasgow, everyone is crushing it. I don't really look at it as a new genre. I think it's just been the logical progression of hip hop. LuckyMe is straight killin' it. Definitely pumped to play a few shows with them.

DD: Something new is needed right now.
E:
Yeah it's the next level future-crunk-psychadelic-hyphy-ultra-slaytron-steez.

DD: Can you talk about "The Game Is Not Over"?
E:
It's the sequel to Dabrye's "Game Over" feature J Dilla and Phat Kat. I wouldn't call it a remix because Fly Lo already killed it on the remix tip. It's definitely a sequel. To me, when Dilla died it almost felt like there was this incredible section or corner of hip hop that would never shine again. And although there will never be another Dilla, this song is a tribute to him, his music and all the people that keep Dilla's legacy alive. Also many thanks to Sam Valenti IV from Ghostly International and Dabrye for giving their blessing to make this track possible.

edIT plays with LuckyMe at Ballers Social Club at the the Ivy in Glasgow on 26th July and at FabricLive at Fabric in London on 1st August.
