Frank Ocean hints at a Grand Theft Auto radio station

A now-deleted Tumblr post appears to show Blonded radio as an in-car option

A now-deleted post to Frank Ocean’s Tumblr appears to suggest that the musician will be, in some way, joining Grand Theft Auto V. The picture, a screenshot of the music selection screen for the radio on GTA, features Blonded Radio, Ocean’s Beats 1 radio show, as an option for the game. Users are able to pick what their character listens to upon entering a vehicle.

It appears that a specially-curated radio station called “Blonded Los Santos 97.8 FM” will be included in the game, meaning that Ocean would join other musicial contributors to GTA like Tyler, the Creator, Flying Lotus, Danny Brown, and Iggy Pop. An update for GTA online, called “Doomsday Heist”, will be released by Rockstar Games today (December 12).

“A billionaire tech mogul, an idealistic intelligence agent, a socially awkward conspiracy theorist, and a neurotic supercomputer have been forced into an unlikely alliance to save San Andreas from total annihilation,” the game synopsis reads. GTA, across its brand, has become revered for a banging backlog of fresh music that adds to the immersive, visceral adventure game. Now it looks like players can jam to “Pink + White” while cruising Los Santos.

Gaming has long been a medium that incorporates stunning imagery and thoughtful music composition: most recently, London’s Kode9 and his Hyperdub record label compiled Diggin’ in the Carts: a Collection of Pioneering Japanese Video Game Music. The compilation surveys the glory days of 8-bit and 16-bit Japanese VGM in the 80s and early 90s chip era.
