Christmas Cheer from Filthy Little Angels

A free download of over 70 festive songs.
At last! Some Christmas music that you won't have to garrot your critical faculties to enjoy. This week, Lancashire label Filthy Little Angels bring us Hark! The Filthy Angels Sing, an astonishing 70 songs about that lovely time of year when we sing carols, eat turkey, and celebrate capitalism's enslavement of the human soul. Available for free download from their website, Hark! follows last year's Have Yourself A Filthy Little Christmas and Down To Grease On Holiday.
How do you find 70 bands to give away Christmas songs? 'Some old friends, some friends of friends, and a lot of new Myspace friends,' says FLA's Woon. 'It took two or three months to organise. Nine times out of ten, dealing with bands is a disaster! Some of them over-ran our deadline by two weeks, so the album was only finished on Saturday.'
But they're not discouraged. 'There will always be more plans. I wanted to have twenty-four bands cover all twenty-four Blur tracks from 1997 and Missy [who runs the Los Angeles branch of FLA] wanted to do a Rocky Horror Picture Show covers album.' There will also be a third Christmas album next year. So what would be on their ideal Christmas album? 'Missy loves “C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S” by The Vandals and “Last Christmas” by Wham, and I'd go for “Fairytale in New York” by The Pogues and “I Wanna Be a King of Orient-ah” by Elastica.'
