Exclusive: Mykki Blanco's David Blaine Bitches

Mykki Blanco pops out the local McD's for an acapella rap spree shouting out magician David Blaine

Music First Look

NYC rap girl Mykki Blanco debuts a raw video for "David Blaine Bitches" on Dazed today, the track taken from her recent Betty Rubble: The Initiation EP. Popping out of the local Mickey D's holding a homebrew Blanco cocktail, she swags out sans backing while spitting her all-up-in-ya-grill rhymes. "All my loco muthafuckas livin' good, we livin' fast/Ain't nothin' like being young and makin' money" Blanco quips as her nipple tassels jiggle to her flow. Michael Quattlebaum Jr., the artist behind Blanco, has shaken up the foundations of NYC's hip-hop scene and parted crowds with aggressive yet articulate wordplay, and in this track she shouts out David Blaine – the all-American TV magician – to add that bit of mystery to her brash, flash-popping rap spree.

Dazed Digital: What was in your McDonalds cup?

Mykki Blanco: Summerwine and jolly ranchers.

DD: When did you write "David Blaine Bitches"?

Mykki Blanco: December 2012 in Sinden's basement.

DD: Do you see this as a bit of a return to the days of No Fear?

Mykki Blanco: Yes, it's important for me as a hip hop artist to always strive to be innovative but not forget my roots, and my roots are in raw acapella punk poetry much in the cinema verité style the video is shot in.

DD: What was the rest of your night like after filming the video?

Mykki Blanco: I went to DJ Kingdom and Asma from NGUZUNGUZU's joint birthday party at a Chinese reception hall on Wall Street.

"David Blaine Bitches" is now available on UNO. Mykki Blanco plays the main stage at Lovebox Festival this Sunday, July 21.
