Bitchee Bitchee Ya Ya Ya

The Paris band have more on their minds than sex.

In the pantheon of great band names, they don’t come much more awesome than Bitchee Bitchee Ya Ya Ya.
Or as French fancy Bitchee puts it, "Well, we're Bitchee and Ya Ya Ya.
We have another Ya Ya Ya with us on stage, so I guess we should be
called Bitchee Ya Ya Ya Ya Ya Ya or Ya Ya Ya Ya Ya Ya Bitchee or
something, but the name works better that way!"
They are the Kitsune label's newest, freshest contributions to a bubbling-over Parisian scene that includes Yuksek, Brodinski and the whole Ed Banger crew. They carry on in the peculiarly French tradition of singing saucy lyrics (from the Teenagers back to Serge Gainsbourg), this time feeding them through distortion pedals and elementary 8-bit beats.
Though
their name pays tribute to Patti Labelle’s infamously lascivious
classic "Lady Marmalade" and their debut single is called "Fuck
Friend", they deny that sex is all they have on their brains. Says
Bitchee, "I used to have a ‘fuck friend’, and it inspired me to write
the song. I'm writing about a plane trip now, and tomorrow I'll write
about this red car that's always parked in front of my flat."
They
seem determined not to reveal their true identities however and only
give us tantalizing glimpses - "Well, we're regular human beings (not
robots or DJs spinning with a big cross behind us...) We think/hope
that what matters is not who we play with but what we do." Fair enough.
They warrant enough attention for their slamming live act alone, which
incorporates synchronized dance routines - "We took six months of boot
camp with the Kirov Ballet in Russia this Fall to be able to do that!"
Currently
churning out killer remixes for fellow electro-punk stars such as CSS
and Bonde Do Role, 2008 should see them unleash more filthy mayhem on
unsuspecting audiences in the form of a new single and video for "Fuck
Friend". "As Collin Blunstone would say, 'This will be our year'!"
