With moments stolen from massive r'n'b divas like our recent coverstar Beyonce to the likes of Patti Smith, Santigold, and Peaches, past Dazed & Confused Magazine coverstars Kelis, PJ Harvey, and Alicia Keys to new popstresses like Lana Del Rey and Andrea Martin, it's been one helluva year at Dazed HQ. We tried our bestest not to disappoint fans of anything from electronica, hip hop, old school acid rave to Japanese death metal, whilst championing the latest and finest in upcoming artists to watch. Treats over the course of 2011 have included exclooosive video premieres from Spoek Mathambo, Glasgow's energetic Jackmaster, Hudson Mohawke, Swedish songstress Lykke Li, Ed Banger SebastiAn, melancholic Montrealer Grimes, indie band BIGKids, to London popstar Tyson and the terrifying Modern Witch for BL4CK M4G1CK in Berlin - whilst mixes and mixtapes came courtesy of names like 16bit and Scratch Massive, to showcasing the talents of upcoming electronic artists like Raffertie, Lorca and Dark Sky or labels Mexican Summer, East London-based band TEETH, the epicly anthemic Woodkid, sultry Italians Do It Better/No Pain In Pop act Nite Jewel, and Letherette. We've had track giveaways from Slugabed to acapella competitions from Anneka, as well as updates on top tracks from Midland, Kele and Roman Flugel. Whilst as part of our instalments of our Dazed TV: The Party documenting the special one-off live events we hosted, we had super-spesh videos of Kreayshawn, Florence and Bo Ningen. We caught up with our techno loves Magda and Martyn to house gods like Levon Vincent, Derrick Carter, Anthony Shake Shakir and young legend-in-the-making, Kyle Hall, as well as off-beat electronica artists Nightwave, Maria Minerva and Nicolas Jaar, and New York noise duos like Gatekeeper and AraabMUZIK who composed with Salem for Patrik Ervell. And let's not forget our massive monthly playlists compiled by Dazed & Confused's music editor Tim Noakes. Here's some of our favourite pieces of the year...
